Do I need a permit in Toronto?

A shed under 15 m² and a deck no more than 60 cm off the ground need no building permit. A garage, workshop or other accessory building over 10 m², anything attached to the house or with plumbing, and solar panels do. Pick your project to check yours.

What are you building?

No permit still means rules

Without a building permit, the zoning by-law still applies: how close to the lot lines, how high, and how much of the lot is covered. A site-specific exception can change those rules for one lot.
